Maurice B. Dessault, Ph.D., P.Eng., is a registered professional engineer in Alberta and Ontario with 46 years of practice. He has published two texts, over 625 full-length research articles in Journals and Conferences, and over 100 Professional Practice reports for clients since 1976. Maurice has graduated 85 PhD and MSc students with his guidance, holds dozens of patents, and has been a key person in six start-ups based on his ideas and developments. His work focuses on measurements and subsurface geological engineering, ranging from assessments of nuclear waste repositories to waste disposal strategies, geothermal energy, and subsurface energy storage. He has worked closely with industry since starting his academic career at the University of Alberta in 1977, followed by a move to the University of Waterloo in 1982, where he remains as an active researcher and professor.
